Nitrogen gas generation experts at Purity Gas embrace the connections between manufacturing and motorsports

See them at the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Toronto from July 19 to 21

Building the best possible team. Strategic planning and preparation. Long-term vision. Competing to win.

These are a few of the similarities between striving for success as a business leader and on the racetrack. This clear connection is what drove the founders of Purity Gas to get engaged in Canadian car racing events, including Toronto’s premier motorsports festival – the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy, happening from July 19 to 21, 2024 at Exhibition Place.

Manufacturers can control their own nitrogen supply

Purity Gas gives manufacturers the ability to generate their own nitrogen gas – on site and as needed – using the turnkey NITROCENTER® system. Purity’s technical experts assess a client’s needs and engineer a nitrogen gas generation system suited to their unique infrastructure and application. Common industrial uses for nitrogen gas include laser cutting, metal fabrication, food and beverage production, and chemical manufacturing.

Alan Hopkins and Chris Styles are the co-founders and leaders of Purity Gas. Hopkins explained that the NITROCENTER® system replaces the traditional delivery of tanks of nitrogen gas.

“Nitrogen delivery is outdated, inefficient, and expensive, and has a negative impact on the environment. With our full support throughout design, installation, and maintenance, we help clients take complete control over their nitrogen supply.”

Connecting to Canadian motorsports

In smaller quantities, nitrogen has important uses in motorsports, such as in tires, suspension systems, and air jacks. In March, FEL Motorsports, organizer of Canada’s two premier professional car racing championships, announced an extended partnership with Purity Gas for the 2024 racing season. Purity Gas is the exclusive provider of on-site nitrogen for both the Sports Car Championship Canada (SCCC) presented by Michelin and the Emzone Radical Cup Canada (RCC) presented by Michelin.

Hopkins explained that being on site during race weekends allows the Purity Gas team to interact with thousands of people.

“We find that not only are they passionate about car racing, but they are also interested in how NITROCENTER® is transforming factory operations. They work on shop floors, they develop products, they own large and small businesses. And they want to learn more about how we design large-scale nitrogen gas generation systems.”

Education is still needed

He added that awareness of – and appetite for – their technology is growing, but that most people still don’t know that there’s an alternative to having a truck show up every day to fill the nitrogen tanks.

“In 2017, we were the first to bring this technology to Canada in a meaningful way. It’s still a new concept to most manufacturing leaders. Every time we tell our story, we have a chance to make a real impact on someone’s operations and profitability.”

Engaging through meaningful sponsorship

Purity Gas donates two nitrogen tire-filling kits at every FEL race weekend to be given away in draws. They also sponsor two race cars competing in FEL’s single-make RCC series under the Auto Eclectic Motorsports banner. These cars are poised to battle in three scheduled races during the Honda Indy Toronto weekend.

Mark Boyd is Team Principal of Auto Eclectic Motorsports and driver of their #12 Radical SR3 1340. In May, Boyd’s #12 Radical reached the podium, with a third-place finish at the Castrol Victoria Day Speedfest. He said Purity Gas is a significant supporter, not only for their two cars, but for the entire FEL series and racing community.

“Their interest in advancing Canadian motorsports is genuine and their sponsorship helps us compete for podium spots at the highest level of Canadian sportscar racing.”
